In this section of the blog, I’m going to share MY “real-life” Peri- Menopause version of weight loss, while also dealing with multiple health issues.
How I Lost Weight At Peri-Menopause
- Small Tweaks, Big Wins: The simple nutritional changes that actually made a difference for my hormones.
- Movement That Heals: How I stayed active without overtaxing my joints or my brain shunt.
- The Mindset Shift: Learning to be kind to myself while still staying disciplined.

These pictures give a bit of perspective on my ongoing weight loss journey.
Immediately before and probably 3 months after surgery I was heavy and had a sharp appetite. I used to eat a lot, especially a few days after surgery, and I ate everything!
And I was moving less because my brain/head hurt.
I only started to see a shift downwards on the scale when I started taking deliberate action about diet & movement. As well as when I could finally started to get better sleep. My peri -menopause weight started to go.
For a long time, before I discovered about my brain issues, but already in my mid 40s (peri-menopause) I felt like my body had betrayed me.
As I hit my peri-menopause years, the “tried and true” methods I’d used my whole life to stay healthy stopped working.
Suddenly, the scale was moving in the wrong direction. My energy was at an all-time low, and I felt like I was fighting an uphill battle against my own hormones.
If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and wondered where “you” went, please know: It isn’t your fault, and you aren’t stuck.
The “Resilient Ordinary Woman” Approach To Peri- Menopause Weight Loss
Because I’m also managing a brain shunt and recovering from surgeries, I couldn’t just jump into a “hardcore” fitness bootcamp or a restrictive diet.
I had to find a way to lose weight that was gentle on my body. But tough on the biological changes happening inside me.
I decided to stop fighting my body and start listening to it. Through a lot of trial and error and plenty of research as a patient.I achieved a goal, I’m losing weight!
Not because of illness, no. I am recovery very well from my brain issues and losing weight. At this age of peri menopause and having multiple health issues, I honestly thought was behind me.
